Use a transmitted and reflected light petrographic microscope and stereozoom binocular microscope. Fully equipped facility.
Identify the rock type. Point count thin sections. Describe and document mineralogy, alteration / weathering, presence or absence of unstable minerals (soluble sulfates, or unstable sulfide minerals), volumetrically unstable minerals (such as smectites), grain shape (concerns for flat or elongated mineral grains), potential alkali-silica and alkali-carbonate reactive constituents, and presence / absence of contaminants in aggregates (e.g., synthetic glass, cinders, clinkers or coal ash).
Reports are profusely illustrated in color. Clients are encouraged to review report results in draft form to ensure the report's clarity and meets the client's specifications. After review comments are addressed and the report is finalized, only then is the client invoiced. Reports are in digital formation (PDF) and all residual materials, thin sections, plus scanned lab notes, and other data are returned to the client in digital format.
Access to x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopes (SEM) and other advanced analytical instruments.
By arrangement, "data mining" including comprehensive database searches for "green field projects", core logging, and site studies including investigations of cause of "bad ground" and reduced rock quality.
Tailings studies (mineralogy, size fractions, and chemistry).
